RoCA Panorama: A Different Kind of Fundraiser

Panorama a different kind of fundraiser for Rockland Center for the Arts in West Nyack New York uniquely ties together the works of 85 artists. I was asked to participate by Curatorial Director Lynn Stien in mid November. The concept of the project was I would be mailed an 8 x 10" wood panel that was prepped with gesso and had a horizon line drawn on the piece. I had roughly 2 months to complete a piece of artwork, anything I wanted to do that kept the integrity of the horizon line.

The pieces were recently installed at RoCA and the opening reception was last weekend. I was happy to see my piece had sold when I walked in which was exciting to see. This was an awesome opportunity to acquire one of my new abstraction drawings below retail value. Every panel was available for $100 with a limit of 2 per patron. The sale order was determined by the order people showed up and received a number, just like a deli counter. All together it was a fun project. It seemed to be an excellent way to bring many artists together with a project idea that's not overwhelming or asking too much and an excellent way to raise some funds. This was a really fun way for artists to come together, stay tuned for Fun !

If you are not familiar with RoCA in West Nyack, NY it is a unique gallery space and sculpture garden that also includes hosts classes and has a dance studio, a ceremics studio, and a drawing and painting studio. I reccomend you stop by and visit this innovative art resource in the Hudson Vallery.
